IAS Conference will be held in Genoa at Albergo dei Poveri. The Albergo dei Poveri was founded in the second half of the 17th century on the initiative of the Genoese patrician Emanuele Brignole as an assistance institute for citizens in difficulty. Enriched over time by works of art – including the statue of the Assumption by Pierre Puget (1666) – and by noble bequests, it underwent a major transformation with the Napoleonic requisitions of ecclesiastical property.
Used as a hospital in the 20th century, in 1991 it was granted to the University of Genoa for 50 years. The spaces, refurbished for teaching purposes by architect Enrico Bona, accommodate 4,500 students of Law and Political Science, while the 490 in-patients are moved to more modern and well-equipped residences.
